Taking notes

Hi All!

You have been doing a great job practicing your note taking skills.  Click the link below to check your notes from sections 12.2 and 12.3.  Study hard and good luck on your quiz tomorrow.

The Rip Van Winkle State?

So, who’s figured out why North Carolina was nicknamed the “Rip Van Winkle State” in the early 1800’s? That doesn’t seem to be a very nice nickname! Check out the class notes about North Carolina attached below to see if you can figure it out!

Power Planning

Tomorrow kicks off the Power Planning program here at MCMS.  About every other week, all teachers from one discipline will meet to plan units that correlate to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study that provide “above and beyond” opportunities for student learning, growth and participation.  On Power Planning days, students will attend only 3 of their four core subjects for about 90 minutes.  Encore classes will run on their normal schedules.  Tomorrow Language Arts teachers will have power planning.

What do you think about only having three of your core classes tomorrow?  Feel free to leave a comment.  Remember that you must use your first name and last initial, not your full name.

New Beginnings

Here we are again at the beginning of a new school year, facing a grand mix of emotions all in a range from excitement to uncertainty!  As I have been preparing my classroom and attending a variety of meetings and training sessions it all seemed a bit surreal until last Thursday – when students came to pick up schedules and visit for a few minutes.  Some of my former students were even tagging along!

At that point, it all became real and I realized how much I love to be a teacher!  It is such a privilege to get to know the people who come to sit in my class for 10 months.  And it is so awesome to see these same people years later and check in with how they have changed along their life’s journey.

Needless to say, I am eagerly anticipating the start of the school year and all the wonderful things we will experience as we take our place in history.  Who will our next president be?  Will our troops’s work in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other distant places be finished this year?  What surprises are in store for us all?
